A storm pump station, floodwalls and deployable gates that protect a low-lying neighborhood, built to keep working through the storm it was designed for.
A flood barrier only proves itself on its worst day. The 1,200 CFS pump station had to start and run while the grid was down and the streets were filling, and the floodwalls and deployable gates had to close on time and seal against water pressure. The work ran along streets where people live and work, with utilities under every block and a river on one side.
The approach.

- 01
Utilities found before digging
Test pits and a utility survey mapped every line along the wall alignment, so relocations were planned before the excavators arrived.
- 02
Pumps that run without the grid
Pumps, generators, fuel storage and controls were set above flood level and commissioned as one system, including a full test on generator power.
- 03
Gates closed in drills
Every deployable gate was installed, closed and leak-checked with the operating crew, then closed again in a timed drill.
- 04
Controls the crew can trust
SCADA, level sensors, cameras and the station network were installed and loop-checked by our systems team, with alarms tested end to end.
The outcome.
“We did not hand over a pump station. We handed over a station that had already been run without the grid, and a crew that had closed every gate.”
Commissioning manager, Tum Harry
