Electrolyzers, compression and storage that turn renewable power into clean hydrogen, built as a first-of-its-kind plant for its owner.
A first plant has no playbook. The electrolyzers, compressors, storage and safety systems came from different suppliers, each with its own interface, and the owner had never run one before. Hydrogen also brings strict rules for leak detection, ventilation, hazardous-area wiring and spacing between equipment. The plant had to be built, tied to a renewable power supply and proven safe before the first kilogram was produced.
The approach.

- 01
Interfaces mapped up front
Every connection between supplier packages, from piping to control signals, was listed and owned by a named engineer before equipment was ordered.
- 02
Skids built and tested off site
Electrolyzer and compression skids were factory-tested and pressure-tested before shipping, so field work focused on setting and connecting.
- 03
Safety systems first
Gas detection, ventilation, emergency shutdown and fire protection were commissioned before any process system was energized.
- 04
Controls loop-checked end to end
Instruments, the plant control system and the site network were loop-checked by our systems team, with operators trained on each step of startup.
The outcome.
“When nobody has built one before, you test everything twice. Once in the factory, once in the field, and only then do you start it up.”
Construction manager, Tum Harry
